Treatment of Inflammatory Eye Diseases

Eyelid Margin Inflammation (blepharitis): The most common symptoms of eyelid margin inflammation include a stinging, burning, and itching sensation, which may be accompanied by a foreign body sensation: “It feels like there is something in my eye.” It is often associated with light sensitivity, excessive tearing, and surprisingly, dry eyes. In more severe cases, the eyelid margin becomes red, swollen, and scaly, and in advanced stages, it may develop sores. Chronic blepharitis also promotes the formation of styes.

Conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, accompanied by hyperemia and discharge. Possible causes include bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites, physical and chemical irritants, and allergic reactions.

Keratitis (corneal inflammation) presents with pain, photophobia, and excessive tearing.

Scleritis and episcleritis usually manifest as localized vascular congestion with mild pain.

Inflammations of the uvea (choroid layer) include:

Iritis (anterior uveitis): The most symptomatic form, typically presenting with stabbing pain, eye redness, photophobia, and vision impairment. Ophthalmic examination reveals inflammatory cells in the anterior chamber and on the posterior surface of the cornea.

Intermediate uveitis: Typically painless, it presents with blurred vision and vision loss. The symptoms are caused by inflammation in the peripheral retinal areas (mainly in the lower parts) and inflammatory cells dispersed in the vitreous body. In many cases, no specific cause can be identified.

Posterior uveitis: Also associated with blurred vision, it may be accompanied by secondary retinal detachment and optic nerve inflammation, leading to significant vision loss.

Panuveitis: A combination of symptoms and signs affecting multiple parts of the uvea.

With our advanced diagnostic tools, we can detect these conditions at an early stage. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment are crucial due to the rapid progression of these inflammatory diseases.
