Cataracts are a gradual cataract of the lens of the eye, which causes blurred vision, colour perception problems and a loss of visual acuity. It mainly develops in older age, but can also occur as a result of injury, diabetes or medication (e.g. steroids).
During the operation, the greyed-out lens is removed and replaced by a clean artificial lens implanted inside the eye. The dioptre of the artificial lens can be adjusted, so that previous refractive errors in the eye can be corrected.
